Notes:  Describes the antecedents and content of the Network for Crisis Centres in the Russian Barents Region (NCRB). The network was established to strengthen collaboration between the women’s centres that tackle gender-based violence, and improve their work with clients and in society. Centres located in other countries of the Barents region also participate in the projects. The project for 1999-2002 involved 19 units situated in Russia, Norway, Sweden and Finland. The NCRB II for 2002-2004 focuses on Russian centres, but requires Nordic participation in training. The different approaches utilised in funding, recruitment and ideological premises are overcome by a policy of respect. Nevertheless, more pressure is needed to rectify the shortcomings of the Russian centres which stem from outdated legislation, political exclusion and lack of resources.
