Notes: | Provides a background to the establishment of the National Rural Women’s Coalition (NRWC), one of four secretariats formed under the Federal Government’s revised funding arrangements for women’s non-government organisations. The article considers whether the interests of rural women will be better served under the new model and suggests that the previous approach had the capacity to fund a wider range of women’s organisations. Points out that criticisms directed at the new funding model have been met with little response and argues that, in the context of other regressive policy changes brought about by the Howard Government, suspicion of the secretariat model is justified. |
