Notes:  Eisikovits et al propose a “heuristic” (developing, still to be tested and validated) model to explain children and young people’s experiences of domestic violence. The model has been developed to reflect and emphasise to practitioners the heterogeneous nature of children and young people’s experiences and the need to develop differential intervention approaches. The model proposes three central constructs: Recollection, What happened?; Causality, Why did it happen; and Moralization, Meaning the child draws from the experience. The authors suggest that children confront these issues in a world characterised by one of the following environments: living with a secret, living in a conflict of loyalties, living in a climate of fear and terror and living in an aggressive and dominance-orientated context. Children and young people oscillate between denial and admission of the violence, which subsequently influences their reactions to this abuse.
