Notes: | This review paper comprehensively presents the various theories and models currently in use for treatment of women who experience domestic violence. The limitations of each are discussed, as are implications for future research. While theoretical models are abundant in the literature, it is noted that there is a lack of in-depth evaluation of treatment methods by practitioners in the field. The difficulties of assessing psychotherapy research and the lack of clinical studies in such research are extensively discussed. At the macro-level, research findings are presented in the areas of criminal justice interventions, social service interventions and self-evaluations and criticisms made of the value and efficacy of the various research findings. In conclusion, a summary of implications for practice, policy and research is given. |
