Notes:	Describes the methodology and results of a study aimed at contrasting the social service utilisation, trauma symptomology, arrest history and exposure to violence of women identified as perpetrators of and/or victims of domestic violence. A review of the literature relating to women as batterers is provided and some of the relevant theoretical perspectives, such as learned helplessness and feminism, are explored. Concludes that while the findings indicate both ‘batterers’ and ‘victims’ experience high levels of victim-related exposure to violence, the latter group tend to utilise social services more frequently and experience greater levels of trauma than the former, though trauma symptomology was found to exist in both groups. Advocates for detailed screening processes for female batterer intervention programmes as a way of better addressing the needs of victims and perpetrators.
