Notes:	This Canadian article describes a study which examined important elements essential in an Aboriginal-based family violence interventions programme. Twenty-one Aboriginal family violence programme administrators and service providers in Canada were interviewed. Cluster items and bridging values for the concept map of essential elements in a programme are presented. They identified the need for sound administrative structure and function, qualified and healthy staffing, and consistent programme funding. Coordinated service delivery is also described. Programme components need to be based on traditional teachings and need to educate about family violence, including components for partners separately, partners and their children and the whole family. Identified characteristics of an Aboriginal family violence intervention programme involve the interaction between personal, family and community factors which are also appropriate to the traditions of the people they serve. Structure of the programme suggested by the respondents includes several dimensions such as in-house and outreach components for children, parents, extended family and for community members through broad-based education and awareness activities.
