Notes:  On 30 May 2012, the Federal Government tabled the Crimes Legislation Amendment (Slavery, Slavery-like Conditions and People Trafficking) Bill 2012 in Parliament. One of the amendments is a proposal to criminalise forced marriage by including forced marriage as an offence in the Commonwealth Criminal Code. In this Clearinghouse interview, a spokesperson from the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department explains how the bill came about and what it would mean for those affected by forced marriage.
