Notes:  In 2011–12, Family Planning Queensland developed school curriculum for Indigenous Australian upper-primary school children with the aims of promoting personal safety and preventing sexual abuse. ... To ensure the curriculum was culturally safe, Family Planning Queensland worked with the Aboriginal and Islander Independent Community School in Brisbane and an Indigenous creative agency called Gilimbaa. This paper, written by an Aboriginal Australian researcher and a non-Aboriginal colleague, uses an Indigenous Australian viewpoint to describe and analyse both the Safe is … teaching resources and the way the curriculum-design project was conducted. ... We examine the importance of genuine consultation and collaboration in the development of materials with and for Indigenous Australians, and investigate which textual forms are most appropriate for working with young Indigenous Australians in relation to personal safety promotion and sexual abuse prevention.
