Notes:  This article examines the concept of ‘desistance’ in terms of intimate partner violence (IPV) by critically reviewing studies found in the literature which investigate the phenomenon. It is known that some perpetrators discontinue their violent behaviour either spontaneously or following intervention. Designing successful evidence-based IPV interventions will depend on knowledge of why some men are persisters and some desisters.
