Notes:  This article presents findings from a study conducted in Sweden that surveyed children directly about their experience of intimate partner violence and their self-reported experiences of mental health symptoms and trauma. The authors also considered gender and age as mediating factors. Findings indicate that children who experienced IPV reported more symptoms than children who had not. Specifically, girls who had ongoing contact with an abusive father reported more mental health problems than boys with ongoing contact. Younger children reported more mental health symptoms from experiences of custody disputes and the legal system.
