Notes: | This article outlines a qualitative UK study which used in-depth interviews to better understand the negative psychological and physical health effects experienced by older women who have been subjected to domestic abuse. The lack of empirical exploration in this area reflects the lack of recognition and understanding of wider society and problematically, of service providers. McGarry and Simpson explain the concerning homogenisation of older women which ignores the complexities and uniqueness of each person’s experience and situation. Finally, policy and service provision and development are discussed, with recommendations for further research and evaluation. |
