Research indicates that domestic violence is rarely recognised among women using health services such as emergency departments and antenatal services. Describes Queensland Health’s first specific initiative dedicated to combating domestic violence. Commencing in November, 1998, two short questionnaires are being trailed in a number of health services including antenatal clinics, gynaecology, outpatients, and emergency. As far as possible, staff have 4 hours of training before the pilot begins. An evaluation is incorporated which is looking at the acceptability of the questionnaire to women and the ease of use for staff.
