Notes:  This article presents findings from a research study in New Zealand that examined increases in domestic violence reports during and after natural disasters in five communities. The findings indicated increases in the number of victims seeking service for domestic violence among women’s refuge services and other domestic violence service providers. The author discusses challenges resulting for both service provision and staffing. Recommendations for disaster risk reduction policies at a national government level are included.
