Notes: | Provides an overview of research into the incidence of post-separation violence and the link between spousal and child abuse, before reporting some of the key findings of a study aimed at exploring women’s experiences of the legal system in the post-separation period. Some of the problems encountered by women in obtaining and enforcing apprehended domestic violence orders are described and the overlap between these issues and contact/residency issues is discussed. The tendency for domestic violence to be given inadequate weight in the negotiation of child residency and contact arrangements is highlighted and safety issues associated with this trend are identified. |
