Notes:  General Overview: :This journal article reports on a Canadian survey of 514 adult emergency department patients who were asked if it was appropriate for all women to be questioned about violence against them.

Discussion: :The authors note that it has been difficult to implement universal screening for interpersonal violence in emergency departments. The reluctance of emergency department personnel to screen may be due to their perception that patients would be offended by questioning about violence. This survey found that 86% of patients thought it was appropriate for all women to be asked about violence, while 10% thought it was not appropriate and 3% had no opinion.
