Notes:  This article summarises findings from a systematic review of studies published between 1995 and 2006 which examined same sex intimate partner violence. The primary focus of the review is examine the quality and rigour with the studies were conducted and to outline recommendations for improved research in this area. The article also includes a background and introduction which discusses previous reviews and commentaries. Recommendations for future research focus on strategies for recruiting representative samples, use of clear definitions of violence, controlling for social desirability in conducting studies, using appropriate assessment and psychometric tools, including variables unique to LGBT populations, the value of replicating studies and continued funding of this research.
