Notes:	General Overview: Examines the theoretical issues associated with engaging men as partners in the prevention of men's violence against women. Discussion: This paper argues the need for critical reflection on the costs and benefits associated with the involvement of men in men's violence prevention work. The article begins with an examination of the literature relating to the various roles men currently play in violence prevention and the dangers and problems associated with involving men in this work. It then attempts to locate the literature within theoretical debates regarding patriarchy, men's privilege and interests, and resistance to change. The article concludes that men's involvement in men's violence prevention must meet certain criteria and adopt specific principles in order to avoid replicating the structures and processes that perpetuate violence against women. Such principles include: preserving the centrality of feminist analyses of violence and ensuring that men's violence prevention work remains accountable to women; working towards systemic rather than individual change; working with non-violent men whose silence perpetuates violence; making links with social justice movements; and ensuring that men's violence prevention is linked to the promotion of gender equality.
