Notes: | While research has established that exposure to intimate partner violence poses significant risks to children’s adjustment and functioning, there is considerable variability in children’s outcomes. Research in the past decade has focused on understanding this variability. The article discusses children’s reactions to and interpretation of intimate partner violence within a cognitive-contextual framework and with reference to emotional security theory. Children’s social competence is examined within the context of intimate partner violence, together with an emphasis on risk and protective factors. |
