Notes:  Draws upon narrative therapy practices to develop five inter-related themes that will be relevant to working in a group context with women who have experienced violence. The first theme draws participants’ attention to how society perceives women and violence in the domestic sphere; the second attempts to centre women’s knowledge of themselves; and the third assists them to locate responsibility for the violence with the perpetrator. The fourth theme involves conceptualising and building new identities and the fifth encourages women to challenge the impact of the abuse through connecting with one another. A series of examples is then used to demonstrate how these themes might be put into practice.
