Notes:  In evaluation research done for Partnerships Against Domestic Violence (PADV), King examines the various issues faced by women leaving domestic violence as regards appropriate housing for themselves and their children. Housing issues are recognised as a major factor in women’s decision to leave a violent relationship and whether to return to one. The difficulties women and their children face in obtaining suitable accommodation are discussed and recommendations are given for the types and range of accommodation necessary to meet their needs. Statistics for the utilisation of the Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP) by women experiencing domestic violence and relationship breakdown are included. The safety of women and children is recognised as paramount in all housing service responses and it is also suggested that policies and procedures be developed to allow for the exclusion of the perpetrator from the family home.
