Notes:	Special issue title 'Out of the fire: domestic violence and homelessness' Also published as DVIRC Newsletter Autumn Edition, February 2001 Examines several areas of concern identified by professionals working in the fields of domestic violence and mental health and outlines some of the ways in which the Domestic Violence and the Needs of Women with Mental Health Problems initiative, currently being implemented in Tasmania, aims to address come of these issues. The project is founded upon the assumption that housing is a basic right of all women and recognises the particular barriers faced by women who are both victims of domestic violence and facing mental health problems. Argues that the competing paradigms of the welfare and mental health professions have led to a situation where domestic violence and mental health are treated as mutually exclusive, many women are not receiving the services and resourced that they need and consequently becoming homeless. Suggests that policy change is needed at local, state and national levels if the problem is to be fully addresses within current resource constraints.
