Notes:	General Overview: This Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute publication summarises research into the housing situation of Indigenous families. It suggests sustained tenancy in stable, safe housing is affected by the frequent movement of Indigenous women and their children, a lack of access to services and a lack of cross cultural understanding. The research found that Indigenous women were often disconnected from their local communities and therefore disconnected from service providers and support, both mainstream and Indigenous specific. Further, cross-cultural understandings of homelessness were not fostered by homeless services. The interviewees often had a different perception of homelessness compared to service providers. The research suggests that service providers need to develop strategies to stay in contact with Indigenous women and their children and to provide case-managed, practical, culturally sensitive and specific support.
