Notes:  Outlines the methodology and results of a study that investigated the incidence and nature of abuse experienced by immigrant women who are married or engaged to U.S. servicemen. Key aspects of the abuse highlighted by the research included the tendency for women’s immigration status to be used against them and a propensity for violence to escalate upon moving to the U.S. permanently. Military law enforcement responses to domestic violence are examined, as are associated support and health services, and a series of recommendations for improvement are made. It is suggested that the culture and values of the military play a key role in maintaining the silence surrounding violence against military brides and that the particular vulnerability of migrant women necessitates an improved response to this issue.
