Notes:  General Overview: :This UK journal article discusses some key features of the Cheshire Domestic Abuse Partnership, a co-ordinated community response to domestic violence.

Discussion: :The Cheshire Domestic Abuse Partnership began in 2000 and has been positively evaluated. In this journal article, the authors discuss the importance of strong leadership from women’s domestic violence services. They note the effectiveness of collecting data and sending data back to agencies so that they can improve services. Improved evidence collection by police was useful to increase the number of charges laid and to decrease victim retractions. The outreach component of the project reached a large number of women and provided risk assessment, safety planning, support and advocacy groups. The authors consider that the strengths of the project include careful training of staff, its empowerment ethos and the development of links with local services. It does not concentrate principally on a criminal justice response, instead incorporating a wide range of interventions. However the authors note that early intervention support services are essential to allow the criminal justice response to work effectively.
