Notes:  Provides an overview of two of the largest surveys conducted in the USA into the incidence of intimate perpetrated violence – the 1985 National Family Violence Survey and the Redesigned National Crime Victimization Survey, and attempts to account for the variations in results that were obtained by each, through an analysis of their methodological differences. Identifies differences in the sample population, the number of interviews conducted, the context of the survey, the number of household members interviewed and different approaches to understanding the context within which intimate violence occurs as primary factors contributing to the disparities observed.
