Notes: | This brief article is part of a collection of papers from the Indigenous thematic group of the Australian Sociological Association, Inc. for a special edition of Nexus. In this article, the author critically examines the ‘emergency interventions’ instituted by the Australian government to address what have been long-standing and complex issues among Indigenous communities. In particular the author discusses the limited focus on remote Indigenous communities and a short-sighted view that does not consider the interrelated factors affecting family violence. This is followed by a discussion of the contributions from state-based government reports and the focus on partnership. The discussion considers a critical examination of the use and implementation of partnership with Indigenous communities, including general policy recommendations. |
