Notes:  The 1991 Royal Commission into Aboriginal deaths in custody made 339 recommendations and in response, five Australian jurisdictions developed Indigenous Justice Agreements (IJAs) in an attempt to address the consistently high rates of Indigenous incarceration and to improve justice service delivery to their respective Indigenous populations. This research brief gives an overview and analysis of IJAs and concludes that they are a positive in the overall strategy to improve Indigenous justice outcomes.
