Notes:	The authors consider how technology can be used in the policing of crimes such as domestic violence. They argue for a shift away from the use of surveillance technologies that monitor offenders, as there is little evidence these provide long-term solutions to offending behaviour; offenders are adaptive and change their offending to work around surveillance technology. Instead, in the authors' view, it is 'smart policing' to use technology that focuses on victims. They use the example of the panic button program in Argentina to illustrate their view. Under this program, victims of domestic violence receive a GPS device that, at the push of a button, will alert police that the victim is at risk. The authors explore the benefits of this program in terms of victim-focused policing, compliance and effectiveness, and demand reduction.
