Notes:	Special issue title 'Out of the fire: domestic violence and homelessness' Also published as DVIRC Newsletter Autumn Edition, February 2001 Explores the intersection of family violence, sexual assault and homelessness and how these factors simultaneously interact with race, gender, ethnicity and class to create highly complex and traumatic situations for many women. Uses case studies and research examples to illustrate the impact these intersections can have on individuals, highlighting specific aspects of women’s lives or identity which make them more vulnerable to abuse and subsequent poverty, including isolation, cultural and/or religious background and economic dependence. Reviews some recent research into domestic violence in rural and remote regions, emphasising some of the particular barriers faced by abused women living in these areas. Argues that gradual changes to funding, policy and services in these areas has greatly increased the burden and women and advocates for major changes to attitudes, community values and social structures to occur.
