Notes:  Outlines the methodology and results of a US study aimed at assessing the prevalence of intimate partner violence amongst female caregivers of children reported for maltreatment and identifying correlates and risk factors for the occurrence of intimate abuse in these relationships. These latter include demographic characteristics, caregiver functioning and history of involvement with child protective services. The findings indicate a high proportion of female caregivers to children reported to protective services have experienced some form of violence themselves and that a range of factors will contribute to the risk of intimate partner violence. Some of the implications of the findings are discussed and recommendations for future research and practice are made.
