Notes:  The author points out the repercussions of identifying the same behaviour with different labels. A term might carry a social connotation that implies further meanings and actions. The concept of elder abuse could or could not be taken as an unacceptable behaviour that conveys criminal consequences. Even if a conduct conforms to the definition of domestic violence, it can be categorised as aged abuse, thereby impeding an appropriate response. Another implication is that the violence experienced by older people might be dealt within the health/welfare system instead of the criminal justice system or vice versa. She proposes to inform the general public and especially older people of the unacceptability of the abuse and its consequences in order to empower the latter.
