Notes:  In March 2003, the ACT government launched “Justice, Options and Prevention – working to make the lives of ACT women safe” and its accompanying Action Plan. A reference group comprising government and community stakeholders with extensive input from government and key community organisations shaped this framework, the objectives if which are: better protection and justice for women, more appropriate and accessible options for women, and the prevention of violence. The Action Plan serves to identify specific agency activities and will be updated and reviewed annually. Current actions being undertaken in the ACT include: review of the protection orders legislation, initiatives to address elder abuse, the establishment of an older woman’s boarding house for women over 55 years who have experienced family breakdown, a pilot project to pull together sexual assault data for legal policy and law reform on sexual assault and the setting up of the Family Violence Program, a combined government-community programme for both perpetrators and victims of violence.
