Notes:	General Overview: This Australian article reports on an intervention with families with a child with a disability. The families were under severe stress and the intervention significantly reduced the risk of child abuse and increased the families’ well being and functioning. Discussion:This article reports on a study of interventions into families with a child with a disability. The families were under severe stress and at risk of placing their child in out-of-home care. The intervention was designed to reduce the risk of child abuse and neglect and to keep the children safely in their families. The study looked at six support workers and forty-four families. Strategies included listening and support, providing money for emergency items, navigating bureaucracies, parenting education and validating carers’ strengths. The intervention was family focussed, occurred at the families’ homes and workers were available by telephone 24 hours per day. For the majority of families, there was significant improvement in empowerment, emotional support, parent-child involvement, abuse potential, family functioning, symptom reduction, hope and happiness.
