Addresses four common misconceptions regarding the provision of legal aid in domestic violence matters. Explains that respondents as well as applicants in domestic violence situations are eligible for legal aid and that both parties can receive aid as long as no conflict of interest occurs regarding legal representatives in the matter. Clarifies funding source for family law matters and domestic violence matters and the extent of the legal process which aid will cover. Also describes the work done by Women’s Legal Aid, a unit within Legal Aid Queensland, including training community agencies and providing court assistance workers to women seeking protection orders.
