Notes:  This Australian article outlines how the presence or absence of an infant’s secure relationship with their parent(s) and/or safe, stable housing may impact the child’s mental health later in life. Bunston discusses the differences in children’s experiences of secure parenting from their biological mother, biological father or other non-biological primary caregiver. The author explores sensitive and appropriate ways for service providers to discuss issues of parenting, homelessness and the parents’ own experiences from the past. The article concludes with suggestions for working with infants.
