Notes:  This Canadian journal article emphasises the demanding nature of intervening in situations of intimate partner violence (IPV), as experienced by child protection workers. It also raises the issue of varying skill levels of child protection workers and questions the consistency of their responses to IPV cases involving children. The authors’ qualitative study showed that while workers’ assessments of these situations were based on a predominantly common list of risk factors, the workers’ responses to families varied. This paper analyses this variance, potential factors and reasons for the choices made by workers and why these choices may be made. The article concludes by recommending ways that responses to families experiencing IPV can become more consistent.
