Notes:	General Overview: :This journal article reports on a Pittsburgh, USA initiative which attempts to increase the proportion of men referred to a batterer program who actually attend and complete the program. Discussion: :Men referred to batterer programs frequently do not show up and those who show up often do not complete the program. Where completing the program is a condition of program, sanctions are often slow and uncertain. In Pittsburgh, men referred by a court to a program are required to reappear in court after 30 days to verify they have attended program intake and again after 90 days to verify program completion. Failure to appear is likely to result in arrest and imprisonment. A study of men referred to programs before and after the implementation of this mandatory court review found a significant increase in the proportion of men referred who began and completed treatment.
