Notes:  Discusses the emergence of divorce as an increasingly common social phenomenon and some of the public policy issues it represents. Utilising data obtained from a national sample, certain patterns and consequences of divorce are identified, such as marital conflict, domestic violence, geographic location, education and gender. Concludes that marital conflict and violence play a substantial role in the advent of divorce.
