Title: Measuring the extent of woman abuse in intimate heterosexual relationships : a critique of the Conflict Tactics ScalesApplied Research Paper Series
Authors: DeKeseredy, Walter S
Schwartz, Martin D
Keywords: Measurement
Year: 1998
Publisher: VAWnet Library
Notes:  Provides an overview of the debate, within the North American context, surrounding the use of quantitative techniques in estimating the incidence and prevalence of male-to-female intimate violence, before presenting a critique of two of the most commonly employed measures used in this area – the Conflict Tactics Scale (CTS) and its updated version, the CTS2. Some suggestions for how to improve the scales and enhance their capacity to take account of the context of violence, its meaning for victims and the motivations of perpetrators are presented and the need for multiple measures emphasised.
