Notes: | Reflects on using mediation as an alternative of resolving disputes between lesbians. Since the formal justice system has been unable to provide a respectful environment, lesbians and gay men do not always access the official institutions and/or obtain a fair outcome. Mediation avoids the imposition of inappropriate legislation for homosexuals, allows privacy and is more flexible. This article discusses the benefits of mediation for lesbians, the exclusion of lesbian experiences within the legal system and the mediator’s responses and attitudes. The similarities and differences between lesbian and heterosexual violence and their implications for mediation are also mentioned. |
