Notes:  The Division of Violence Prevention (DVP) within the National Center for Injury Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, USA has as its mission to prevent injuries and deaths caused by violence. The DVP helps to set the US public health agenda in research and program implementation for sexual violence prevention. It gives guidance and information to state and local health agencies, working at the population level rather than at the level of the individual.

In 2011, the work of the DVP was externally evaluated and this article reviews that appraisal. DVP activities and achievements are presented and gaps in research and prevention strategies are discussed.
