Notes: | Outlines the methodology and results of a study aimed at exploring the relationship between intimate partner violence and incidence of HIV infection in African American women and examining how the intersection of these factors might expose victims to greater levels of psychosocial distress than their non-abused or non-infected counterparts. The findings reveal a strong link between the HIV infection and risk of abuse but it is suggested that abuse predicts poor psychosocial outcomes regardless of HIV status. Implications of these findings and directions for further research are discussed. |
