Notes:  Outlines the methodology and results of a [US] study aimed at comparing the history of partner violence, fear of partner violence, and previous experiences with and beliefs about partner notification in two groups of women – those who accepted and those who declined a request to submit to a HIV test. Recent studies revealing associations between risk of HIV and risk of partner violence and the tendency for HIV positive women to experience violence following partner disclosure are reviewed. While the results do not indicate a strong link between test decisions and fear of or previous experience of partner violence, it is suggested the findings point towards a need for greater support for women engaging in HIV partner notification.
