Notes:  Outlines the methodology and results of a study that examined the prevalence, incidence and nature of pre- and post-partum physical abuse experiences in a sample of US women. Findings suggest that where abuse occurs before and/or during pregnancy, there is a high risk it will continue following the birth of the child. The development of clinical screening processes in a variety of health care settings is advocated.
