Notes:  This article presents the findings of a study that examined use of family violence orders (FVO) among 164 families (including mothers and fathers) who had been involved in parenting disputes after separation in Australia. Drawing on data collected from three different studies, findings indicated that in 37% of families there was a known application for a FVO. The majority of these cases did not involved physical assaults causing injury. The authors further explore the reason for which FVOs were applied for and used in the context of the separation process, concluding that the use of FVOs could intensity conflict and complicate parenting disputes further.
