Notes: | This Vietnamese study by a US academic examined both current and lifetime physical partner abuse. It surveyed 315 males aged 17-25 randomly selected from government lists of residents from 3 different districts in Ho Chi Minh City. It used the Conflict Tactics Scale to determine levels of violence reported and the participants were identified as either ‘ever physically abusive’ or ‘not physically abusive’. The result of 47% identified as physically abusive was twice that reported in the United States. Participants who were younger, less educated, socially isolated and financially insecure with fewer years of marriage behind them were more likely to engage in abusive behaviour. These elements were reported to be consistent with findings elsewhere in research cited. |
