Notes:  Presents the methodology and results of a study conducted in Houston, Texas (USA) aimed at comparing the kinds of intimate partner violence experienced by a cross-section of women before and after the initiation of a protection order against the abuser. The findings suggest that women who sought protection orders experienced significantly lower levels of violence, regardless of the outcome of the court hearing, but that a large number of perpetrators violate these orders within a 2-year period. Acknowledges these findings are consistent with previous studies and identifies some areas for future research.
