Notes:  Provides an overview of the incidence of antenatal depression and some of the risks it poses for the unborn baby before presenting a model for practitioners involved in the psychosocial assessment and management of pregnant women experiencing anxiety and/or depression. Risk factors for antenatal depression identified by the authors include past or current domestic violence, history of abuse or poor parental care and drug/alcohol abuse. The safety and appropriateness of prescribing anti-depressants during pregnancy are also discussed.
