Notes: | This article describes a Nassau County, New York, US programme to deter convicted offenders of domestic violence from further abuse. The system consists of two electronic devices, a pendant for the victim and an ankle cuff for the perpetrator. An alarm automatically triggers when the offender comes within 500 feet of his victim, alerting the victim and the police department. Then, the victim is called and kept on the line until a patrol car arrives. The court and the probation department decide on who wears the device. |
