Notes:  Explores the extent to which differences in sexuality have been represented in the feminist literature on violence against women, arguing homophobia-related violence towards lesbians is neither typical, nor atypical of gendered violence and homophobia-related violence generally. Suggesting the relevance of gender is very often overlooked in the context of the homophobia literature, and that the significance of sexuality is often subsumed within broader feminist perspectives, the distinction between recognising difference and reformulating theory as a consequence of that recognition is highlighted. An overview of the feminist literature on violence against women is provided as a background to the argument that western feminist literature has consistently failed to adequately reflect the experiences of gay women in its theory and praxis. A model for reformulating our conceptual frameworks so as to accommodate difference, whilst not precluding a feminist analysis, is then proposed.
